Packing Essentials for Your Erasmus+ Program
1. Comfortable Shoes
You’re going to a completely different country, and having the right pair of shoes is key. You’ll be doing a lot of exploring—whether it’s discovering new cities, participating in workshops, or enjoying team-building activities. Many projects involve energizers and cultural trips, so you’ll want shoes that are up for the task. Pack a pair of comfortable, well-worn shoes to ensure you can enjoy your time abroad and not worry about any pain in your leg.
2. Versatile Clothing
Packing for a new country means being prepared for various weather conditions. Depending on where you’re headed, you might experience everything from sunshine to rain, and even some snow. For example, in Denmark, you might see all four seasons in a single day! It’s best to pack clothing that you can layer and mix and match to adapt to changing weather. Don’t forget to include at least one warmer item of clothing to keep you cozy.
3. Finances
It’s always a good idea to have some local cash with you, especially when it is your first time in the country. You might run into situations where you can’t use your card, so a little cash can be a lifesaver. Also, double-check that your debit or credit cards are working before you leave.
For anyone who is traveling a lot, we usually suggest using Revolut, which is one of the easiest ways to convert money to any currency or send money to each other. Revolut has many different plans, but already with the free version you can manage your money easily. You can start your free account here.
Splitwise is another app that can be super helpful if you want to keep track of shared expenses with your team.
4. Medication
If you take any prescription medication, make sure to bring enough for the whole trip. It’s also smart to pack a few over-the-counter basics like painkillers or antacids. You might not be able to find the exact meds you use at home, so it’s best to come prepared.
5. Personal Care Products
You can always buy toiletries once you get there, but since you’re only staying for a short time, it’s easier to bring just the basics with you. Travel-sized bottles are perfect for saving space in your bag.
6. Some Snacks
A few snacks can be a lifesaver during your travels, especially if you encounter delays. Bringing along a few of your favorite snacks from home can also help break the ice with new friends and fellow participants.
7. Everyday Electronics
Don’t forget the basics like your phone and charger. It’s also a good idea to pack a power bank to keep your devices charged on the go. Check if you need a universal power adapter for your destination to avoid any issues with different plug types. And make sure your mobile internet plan works in the country you’re visiting to avoid high roaming charges.
8. Important Documents
Keeping your documents organized is important for a smooth Erasmus+ experience. Make sure you have all your boarding passes, tickets, and invoices with you, as you’ll need them for the reimbursement process. Boarding passes can disappear from your app, so making screenshots of them is a good idea just in case.
9. Don’t Forget Your Passport or ID
Depending on your destination, you’ll need either a passport or an ID. Do your research ahead of time to ensure you bring the correct form of identification for your travels.
